Corrections: Condition of inmate who OD’d ‘currently stable’

Maldives Correctional Service states the condition of the Maafushi Prison inmate who was transferred to Male’ City for medical treatment after he overdosed on drugs is currently stable.

The inmate – a 27-year-old Maldivian male incarcerated for a drug-related offense – was transported to Male’ City on Friday night.

He is being treated at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH.

Maldives Correctional Service’s spokesperson told Sun on Sunday that the condition of the inmate is currently stable.

The spokesperson said the substance the inmate OD’s on remains unclear.

The spokesperson said that they have received results on his preliminary tests, and are conducting further tests and examinations.

No further details have been disclosed.

Sun has been informed the doctors believe the inmate OD’d on pharmaceutical drugs. However, the specific drug remains unclear.

IGMH has yet to make a statement regarding the case.
