An expectant mother who was in home quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19 lost her child on Thursday, after giving birth in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.
Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) confirms the death of an infant born to an expectant woman taken to the hospital’s gynae ER on Thursday evening.
Sun has been informed the woman gave birth in the ambulance.
The woman had been in home quarantine after contracting COVID-19. She is now being treated on the 16th floor of Dharumavantha Hospital.
Maldives has been experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases, including cases among expectant mothers. This had led to a rise in cases involving premature births, and cases of both mothers and their newborns developing serious illness.
