Maldives records 1,004 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced 1,004 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in the Maldives to 58,345.

According to HPA, the new cases include; 835 cases from the greater Male’ region, 153 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 12 cases from operational resorts, and four cases from liveaboards.

In a press conference underway at the President's Office tonight, Health Emergency Operations Center Medical Officer Dr. Nazla Mustafa said that 240 individuals who tested positive today are aged below 18 while 41 people are aged above 65. 

According to Dr. Nazla, 78 islands are under monitoring mechanisms. The islands of AA. Thoddoo and R. Dhuvaafaru were placed under monitoring today.

According to HPA statistics announced tonight, 1,023 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 34,159.

With the new developments, Maldives now has 24,033 active cases.

There are 289 patients in hospitals.

4,030 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours.
