COVID-19: HPA announces 1,501 new cases in Maldives

Health Protection Agency (HPA), has announced 1,501 additional cases of COVID-19.

The new cases set another record for the number of cases announced at the same time by the HPA. The increased caseload means that the total number of confirmed cases in the Maldives has now reached 38,520.

HPA did state that 662 cases announced today are positive cases from samples collected between 18:00 of May 10 and 18:00 of May 11. 

According to HPA, the new cases include; 1,229 cases from the greater Male’ region, 265 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and seven cases from operational resorts.

With the new developments, Maldives now has 11,629 active cases.

There are 247 patients in hospitals.

87 COVID-19 patients have died from complications.

HPA vaccination statistics show that a total of 465 people received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on May 10. 145 are from the Greater Male' Area while 323 are from other residential islands. 

A total of 2,208 people received their second dose on May 10. They include 258 from the Greater Male' Area as well as 1,950 from other residential islands. 

A total of 301,707 have in the Maldives have received their first dose of the vaccine while 136,205 have received their second dose of the vaccine.
