COVID-19: With 1,204 new cases, active cases in Maldives surpass 10,000

Health Protection Agency (HPA), has announced a massive 1,204 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in the Maldives to 37,019.

This is the highest number of cases confirmed at once in the Maldives.

According to HPA, the new cases include; 961 cases from the greater Male’ region, 235 cases from residential islands outside Male’, eight cases from operational resorts.

With the new developments, Maldives now has 10,376 active cases.

There are 244 patients in hospitals.

5,598 samples (including repeated samples) have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours

87 COVID-19 patients have died from complications.

HPA vaccination statistics show that a total of 333 people received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on May 9. 162 are from the Greater Male' Area while 171 are from other residential islands. 

A total of 3.111 people received their second dose on May 9. They include 281 from the Greater Male' Area as well as 2,830 from other residential islands. 

A total of 301,239 have in the Maldives have received their first dose of the vaccine while 133,997 have received their second dose of the vaccine.
