President: Travel permitted for receivers of 2 doses of vaccine

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that those who have completed both doses of COVID-19 vaccines will be permitted to travel to other islands across the nation after two weeks of receiving the second dose. 

Inter-travel in the Maldives has been stopped in the Maldives due to the situation with the virus for almost a year, meaning that travelers are required to undergo a mandatory quarantine period if they travel or are only permitted to travel with certain special exceptions such as on important work-related travels requiring negative PCR tests.

A year ago today, Malé city went into lockdown following its first positive Covid19 case.

As we wait for life to return to normal, I’m happy to announce that those who’ve had 2 weeks pass since their 2nd vaccine dose can soon travel freely to the atolls.

The President tweeted tonight that the Maldives was still waiting to return back to daily life after almost a year of the pandemic and that there would be no obstructions faced in travel to other islands of the nation after two weeks of receiving both doses of the vaccine. 

A large number of people, almost 29,000 have received both doses of the vaccine in the Maldives.  The Maldives is currently using the AZ vaccine as well as the Pfizer and Sinopharm vaccines.
