State expenditure increases to MVR 5.9b, earnings at MVR 4b

State expenditure within the first 12 weeks of 2021 has risen to MVR 5.9 billion, Finance Ministry statistics have shown. 

Weekly Development Reports published by the Ministry also showed that the state earned MVR 4 billion as revenue during the same period. Taxes accounted for most of the revenue with MVR 3.3 billion while non-tax income was calculated at MVR 741 million. 

Tax earnings statistics:

  • GST: MVR 1.7 billion
  • BPT: MVR 1 billion

The government also earned MVR 37 million through fines. 

The wagers and salaries of state employees took the biggest chunk of state expenditure during this period with MVR 2.2 billion. The current expenditure of the state was calculated at MVR 15 million while MVR 840 million was spent on Subsidies and amenities. The figure includes MVR 330.9 million spent for the Aasandha healthcare scheme. Loan repayments were calculated at MVR 237.6 million.
