Health Protection Agency (HPA) has instructed for people who travelled out of Lh. Naifaru and Lh. Felivaru within a specific period of time to self-quarantine.

People who travelled from Felivaru to other islands after March 1, and people who travelled from Naifaru to other islands after March 10 have been instructed to report themselves to the hospital or health center of the island they are in as soon as possible.

They have also been asked to self-quarantine for 10 days, starting the day they arrived in their destination.

Those who have already passed the 10-day mandatory quarantine period have also been instructed to get tested for COVID-19.

They are also required to self-quarantine for 10 days even if they test negative for COVID-19, and share their travel details by calling 1676.

Arrangements for their sample collection will be available from their local hospital or health center.

Those who travelled from Naifaru or Felivaru within the specified period of time to greater Male’ region have been instructed to get tested for COVID-19 from the flu clinic near Male’ Hiya, the Hulhumale’ Flu Clinic, or the Vilimale’ Flu Clinic.

The first COVID-19 case in Naifaru was identified on March 23 – a person who had recently travelled to R. Ungoofaaru – which identified its first case on March 19 and has since been linked with cases in several islands in central Maldives.

Meanwhile, the case in Felivaru is a resident of Naifaru who works in the Felivaru fish cannery. The worker tested positive for COVID-19 while in Naifaru, and was last in Felivaru four days before he tested positive.

Cases linked with the Ungoofaaru cluster have now been identified in R. Maduvvari, R. Hulhudhuffaaru, Lh. Naifaru, Lh. Felivaru, HDh. Kulhudhuffushi and K. Dhiffushi. The islands have been placed under monitoring for contact tracing and case investigation.
