Visit Maldives, together with 20 industry partners, has started a travel and trade roadshow in Russia to maintain Maldives’ presence as a destination among Russian travelers.

The roadshow will take place in Moscow, Kazan, Yekaterinburg and Saint Petersburg from March 19-26. It comes at the heels of the Moscow International Travel and Tourism Exhibition (MITT) 2021, which concluded on March 18.

Visit Maldives said in a statement regarding the roadshow that it is important to maintain Maldives’ destination presence through events such as roadshows and engage the travel trade of the market during such a crucial time.

They said that 12 resorts, two guesthouses, six travel agents with over 33 participants joined Visit Maldives to showcase their properties and highlight the experiences available on each of the respective properties.

The roadshow will also promote destination awareness to portray the unique geography of the Maldivian islands, and the stringent health and safety measures in place to ensure the destination remains a safe haven for tourists during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Attendees of all four roadshow events have the opportunity to take part in a raffle and win a free vacation in Maldives. The raffles held in Moscow is sponsored by Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Adaaran Resorts and Sun Island Resort, the raffle at Kazan is sponsored by Paradise Island Resort, the raffle in Saint Petersburg by Taj Coral Reef Resort and Spa along with Sun Island, and the raffle held in Yekaterinburg is sponsored by Royal Island Resort.

The Russian market is currently one of the top performing source markets for tourist arrivals to Maldives, with a total of four connecting flights operating between Russia and Maldives with direct connections via Aeroflot.

Maldives has recorded 40,698 tourist arrivals from the Russian region so far this year – which makes for 21.5 percent of total arrivals.
