Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has stated that as of right now, the second dose of vaccines for COVID-19 would be administered only in special circumstances.

Complaints have been observed that some people are receiving the second dose of the vaccine. Regarding this, HEOC said that the second dose was being administered in emergency cases and in cases where those who had received the first dose of the virus are unable to return for the second dose within eight weeks, after traveling.

The second dose is only administered after all relevant documents are presented, said HEOC.

Administration of the first dose of the virus has been ceased in the capital area since March 15. Those who have not yet received the first dose of the vaccine will receive the vaccine once the second dose of the vaccinations is planned finalized. The second dose would be administered in April.

More than 46 percent of the entire eligible population had received the vaccine. The Maldives is administering the Astrazeneca-Oxford University developed Covishield vaccine.

The Maldives has since permitted the use of the Sinopharm vaccine and Pfizer vaccine as well.
