HPA investigating death of fisherman after vaccine

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has opened an investigation into the death of a 45-year old local after being administered the COVID-19 vaccine yesterday. 

The man passed away on a fishing boat at sea. HPA stated that the man was from the island of AA. Maalhos and had passed away at 9:13. 

The individual was reportedly taken to the Himmafushi after feeling unwell and was unresponsive when taken to the health center of the island. 

"He was administered the Covishield vaccine on 8th March in AA. Maalhos. As per protocol, a full investigation is being carried out to confirm the cause of death," stated the HPA.

HPA also stressed that serious events could occur without being related to the vaccine.

A total of 157,813 people have now been inoculated in the Maldives. The figure includes 91,279 from the greater Male’ region and 66,534 from the atolls.
