Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) stated on Sunday that they have yet to find a female tourist staying at InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort in R. Atoll who went missing after going snorkeling alone.

The tourist was reported missing to MNDF at approximately 08:20 pm on Saturday.

MNDF Northern Area Coastguard Squadron and InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort are searching for the missing tourist both above water surface and below.

A spokesperson from MNDF stated that a 275 nautical mile area has been searched via air using a Dornier aircraft, and a 72,000 square meter area has been searched by divers from the Coastguard and the resort so far this Sunday.

MNDF has asked for vessels travelling in the region and neighboring islands to keep an eye out for the missing tourist, and has asked for anyone with information to call the Coastguard hotline 191.

The tourist was wearing black swimwear with red flowers when she went missing.

MNDF has not disclosed the nationality of the missing tourist.
