Addu Emergency Operations Center confirms COVID-19 cases in the southern Addu City have risen to 55.

Addu City has two COVID-19 clusters; the aviation cluster in Hithadhoo and the MTCC cluster.

Statistics released by Addu Emergency Operations Center on Thursday morning show 28 people linked with the aviation cluster and 26 people linked with the MTCC cluster have tested positive. Meanwhile, a person in home quarantine in Addu has also tested positive, increasing active cases in the city to 55.

310 people have been identified as direct contacts.

One of the COVID-19 patients in Addu is hospitalized.

Addu City has been under monitoring since Saturday, February 6. The increase in cases in the city has prompted authorities to impose additional measures to control the spread of the disease, including a 8:00 pm to 4:30 am curfew, a ban on travel between the different districts of the city, a ban on parties, functions and other events, a ban on crowds of more than three persons, a ban on sporting activities, and the closure of teashops and hotels, gyms, salons and barber’s shops. Schools, colleges and universities have also been closed for face-to-face classes.

Similar measures have also been imposed in the southern Fuvahmulah City, which  now has nine confirmed COVID-19 cases.
