COVID-19: Maldives records 37 new infections

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced 37 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in the Maldives to 13,143.

According to HPA, the new cases include; 30 cases from the greater Male’ region, two cases from residential islands outside Male’, and two cases from operational resorts and, three cases from liveaboards.

Meanwhile, 45 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 12,199.

With the new developments, Maldives now has 890 active cases.

There are 78 patients in hospitals.

251,860 samples (including repeated samples) have been tested for the COVID-19 to date.

The Maldives identified its first COVID-19 case on March 7, and declared a state of public health emergency over the pandemic less than a week later on March 12.

47 COVID-19 patients have died from complications.
