COVID-19: Maldives records 27 cases in 24 hours

Health Protection Agency (HPA), has announced 27 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in the Maldives to 12,112.

According to HPA, the new cases include 17 locals and 10 foreigners.

24 of the cases were identified from the greater Male’ region, while the remaining three cases was identified from other atolls.

Meanwhile, 19 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 11,244.

With the new developments, Maldives now has 820 active cases.

There are 243 patients in isolation facilities and 52 in hospitals.

1,256 samples have been tested for the new COVID-19 over the last 24 hours.

The Maldives identified its first COVID-19 case on March 7, and declared a state of public health emergency over the pandemic less than a week later on March 12.

41 patients have died from complications.

There are active COVID-19 cases in nine residential islands outside of the greater Male’ area.

There are also active cases in 25 resorts, including 54 tourists and 133 staff.
