Maldives’ COVID-19 death toll rises to 38

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that a patient who died while under treatment at the Dh. Atoll Hospital on Friday has tested positive for COVID-19.

HPA identified the deceased as a 60-year-old Maldivian male.

He was transported from Kandima Maldives, a resort island, to the Dh. Atoll Hospital in Dh. Kudahuvadhoo at approximately 07:30 pm of Friday. He passed away a less than three hours later, at 09:45 pm.

HPA announced on Saturday that the deceased later tested positive for COVID-19.

“This is the 38th #COVID19 death in the Maldives,” announced HPA.

Maldives has 11,643 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 27 new cases recorded on Friday. 10,779 patients have since recovered, and the country currently has 820 active cases.

54 of the patients are hospitalized.
