COVID-19: Maldives records 66 infections

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Friday, announced 66 additional cases of the COVID-19, increasing confirmed COVID-19 cases in Maldives to 10,808.

According to HPA, the new cases are 54 locals and 12 foreigners.

60 of the cases were identified from the greater Male’ region, while the remaining 06 were identified from the atolls.

Meanwhile, 65 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 9,654.

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,113 active cases.

There are 369 patients in isolation facilities and 74 in hospitals.

1,232 samples have been tested for the new COVID-19 over the last 24 hours.

34 COVID-19 patients have died from complications.

Maldives identified its first COVID-19 case on March 7, and declared a state of public health emergency over the pandemic less than a week later on March 12.

There are active cases in 21 residential islands outside of the greater Male’ area.

There are also active cases in 19 resorts, including 10 tourists and 16 staff.
