President: Maldives will continue to uphold principles in UN Charter

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Monday, reaffirmed Maldives’ commitment towards upholding the principles and values enshrined in the United Nations (UN) Charter, and continued support for efforts to fulfill objectives.

In his address during the high-level meeting to commemorate UN’s 75th anniversary on Monday evening, President Solih said that Maldives, since it became a UN member state, has engaged in successful international initiatives on climate action and counter-terrorism.

President Solih provided assurance of Maldives’ continued collaboration in international initiatives, and reaffirmed the nation’s commitment towards fulfilling the objectives of the UN Charter.

He stressed that the solution to transnational threats such as the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic lies in collective effort.

President Solih said that mitigating the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic will prove the biggest challenge the world will face in the days to come, and that small and vulnerable developing nations such as Maldives will require the assistance of the international community to overcome the challenges.

He said that Maldives will always remain ready to work together with the international community to overcome any and all challenges which may arise in the future, as a proud UN member state.
