Maldives Transport and contracting Company (MTCC) has begun work on a land reclamation and coastal protection in Guraidhoo, a residential island located in K. Atoll.

The project entails dredging and reclamation of a 644,000 square meter area in the Guraidhoo lagoon, and construction of a 1,200 meter rock boulder revetment.

The project was awarded to MTCC on August 27, 2019.

MTCC’s CEO Adam Azim, who visited the Guraidhoo site on Sunday, said that the project is expected to be completed within three months.

He said that the project is valued at MVR 80 million.

Azim noted that MTCC’s projects had stalled due to the coronavirus pandemic, but were being resumed under “new normal” guidelines.

He said that the company will ensure safety standards are met in continuing with work on projects.
