An employee of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) passed away on Sunday, while receiving treatment at a hospital for burn injuries he sustained in a fire at the Velana International Airport last week.
The fire had taken place at approximately 06:15 pm on August 10, in the sea plane fuel storage depot located in the eastern side of the airport.
MACL has confirmed that Ismail Rasheed, 42, who sustained burn injuries in the fire, has passed way.
He was receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
Ismail Rasheed had been with MACL for over 26 years.

MACL previously stated that the fire was quickly extinguished by the Maldives Airport Rescue and Firefighting Service, and that the company’s safety department had launched an internal investigation into the fire.
