White alert for swell wave surges in central atolls

Maldives Meteorological Service has issued white alert for several central atolls, warning of expected swell wave surges.

The white alert is in effect from 10:30 am to 01:30 pm this Saturday, for islands from K. Atoll to Th. Atoll.

Swell waves surges of two to four feet are expected during high tides.

Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts isolated showers and a few thunderstorms to affect southern-most atolls, but generally fine weather elsewhere.

Winds will vary between southeast/southerly at 03 to 13 miles per hour in southern atolls and southwest/westerly at 05 to15 miles per hour elsewhere.

Seas are expected to slight.

The white alert advisory this Saturday comes after the greater Male’ region was affected by flooding due to swell wave surges on Friday. Worst-hit areas include the Artificial Beach and other nearby coastal areas of Henveiru district in Male’ City and the Male’-Hulhumale’ highway.
