Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has said that he had informed the Auditor general regarding delays faced in preparing his financial statement.
PG Shameem said that the financial statement was not submitted due to delays in obtaining information for the statement.
Auditor General’s Office has said that two current Ministers as well as PG Shameem had not submitted their financial statements as per the constitution.
Cabinet Ministers are to submit the statements under Article 138 of the Constitution. The Article makes it mandatory for Ministers to submit their financial statements at the time of taking office and annually afterward.
According to the information publicized by the Auditor General's Office, Home Minister Imran Abdulla and Health Minister Abdulla Ameen are also yet to issue their financial statements since taking office. PG Shameem who was appointed in December last year had also not submitted his financial statement.
Shameem tweeted today that the lack of information had led to delays in submitting his financial statement and that he had informed the Auditor General’s Office of this. The statement would be submitted and made public as soon as the information was obtained.
