Monitoring mechanisms on Hithadhoo, Addu City lifted

The monitoring status on the ward of Hithadhoo in Addu City, has been revoked after just 24 hours since being invoked.

The Hithadhoo ward of the second most populated urban area and city in the Maldives, Addu City was placed under lockdown and monitoring mechanisms due to a COVID-19 case identified in the island.

Three people have since tested positive for the virus from the island. All three are in home-quarantine. The island was placed under monitoring mechanisms and schools were closed on the island for two days. 

The order was lifted after authorities monitored the situation in the city and saw no reason to keep the order in place.

A COVID-19 case was also identified in the Feydhoo ward of the city days on Saturday. The case was confirmed as a police officer in quarantine. Six other officers were identified in contact tracing efforts conducted due to the case, according to a Council member. Everyone that tested positive from the city are in good health.

The first positive case from Hithadhoo was identified yesterday. The individual is a Bangladeshi national working in the Addu High School construction site. The worker tested positive after completing the mandatory 14-day quarantine period.

Treatment and testing for the virus in Addu City are conducted at the Addu Equatorial Hospital.

Hithadhoo is the most populated ward of Addu City, which also includes Maradhoo-Feydhoo, Feydhoo, and Maradhoo, which are all interconnected. The remaining inhabited islands of the City, although geographically separate from the previously mentioned islands, Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo are also connected with each other.
