Four crew members of a boat that travels between M. Dhiggaru and Male' City have tested positive for COVID-19.

Dhiggaru Council has confirmed the news that the four crew members of the boat named 'Royal 10' had tested positive for COVID-19.

Dhiggaru Council Vice president Yahya Abdul Rahmaan said that the crew members tested positive as the boat was traveling from Male’ to M. Atoll.

The four crew members are all Bangladeshi nationals.

“HPA has now informed the task force of the island that they tested positive. They tested positive from random samples collected in Male’ City.” Said Yahya.

The boat had departed from Male’ around seven days ago and has now been informed to return to Male’ due to the positive cases, said Yahya.

“The boat was near V. Atoll and had not reached any islands of M. Atoll. It has now changed direction towards Male’ City.” Said Yahya.

The M. Atoll boat’s case is similar to a case of a crew member of a boat from H. A. Ihavandhoo that tested positive for the virus. The Ihavandhoo boat’s case had led to a cluster formation that has engulfed seven islands in the north which are under monitoring mechanisms.
