An individual in H. A. Kelaa has tested positive for COVID-19.
The individual is a local male in his middle age. Kelaa Council Vice President Aminath Ismail speaking with Sun said that they were informed of the individual’s test results last night.
The man works on a boat traveling between Male’ and Kelaa. The individual had returned from a trip to Male’ last week and was on the boat before becoming symptomatic. He tested negative from the initial tests while testing positive during the second test.
Around seven people are on board the boat with him. They have all been isolated, according to Aminath.
“We are adhering to the instructions of HPA.” Said Aminath who added that the positive case did not have many contacts. COVID-19 cases have popped up in other islands from time to time. Yesterday, two individuals that traveled to R. Inguraidhoo also tested positive for the virus.
The Maldives has so far confirmed 3,369 cases of the virus along with 2,547 recoveries.
