Ex-president Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has called to end the investigation into the alleged harassment and verbal abuse towards him and his wife by an MDP activist on the streets of Male’ City earlier this week.

The former President and the former first lady were allegedly harassed near the Usfasgandu area of Male’ City as they were exercising. A complaint was later lodged with police regarding the matter.

They were allegedly harassed by MDP activist Ibrahim Jaufaru (Joarey).

A tweet by the former President today read that he was aware that Jaufaru had mental and physical conditions, which is why he was calling to cease the investigation into the matter.

The former President also said that political protests and violence may have led to Jaufaru developing the conditions.

MDP MPs and Speaker Mohamed Nasheed have defended the attack by Jaufaru, while other mainstream political parties have condemned the attack. The attack had also sparked a huge debate among the public on social media.
