COVID-19: Infant of 11-days, 89-year old among positive cases

Data from the health authorities of the country have shown that an infant of 11 days and an 89-year-old individual are among those that tested positive for COVID-19.

The Maldives confirmed 1,513 cases of the virus last night.

The government’s COVID-19 Dashboard showed that an 89-year old woman was among the positive cases last night. The data also showed that an infant of 11-days was among the positive cases reported a day ago. Both remain in stable conditions.

Medical experts have warned that the virus affects the elderly and those with chronic illnesses the most. Out of the five deaths confirmed in the Maldives for the virus, three are locals aged above 65. 

The majority of the cases confirmed in the Maldives are Bangladeshi nationals. A total of 785 Bangladeshi nationals have tested positive for the virus along with 529 locals. 149 Indian nationals have also tested positive.
