Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has pledged to undertake extreme measures to ensure that COVID-19 does not spread among police officers.

A tweet sent of by the Commissioner today, focused on the importance of the Police force which cannot be depleted due to the virus. The Commissioner stated that stringent measures were being undertaken to ensure this.

He also added that he had checked in with 23 Police Officers who had tested positive for the virus. All were doing well, said the Commissioner who added that a further 293 employees of the Police were in isolation as a preventive measure.

National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) which spearheads the national effort against the virus has previously refrained from revealing the number of positive cases among security and law enforcement authorities in the country.

NEOC only stated that 137 front line staff working in the Maldives had tested positive for the virus.
