COVID-19 cases rise to 1,078 with 47 new infections

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Saturday, announced 47 new COVID-19 cases, increasing total cases in Maldives to 1,078.

According to HPA, the new cases are 22 Bangladeshis, 19 Maldivians, four Indians and two Nepalese.

The capital Male’ City remains the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in Maldives. Over 1,000 of the cases are from Male’.

The Greater Male’ Region has been under lockdown since April 15. The lockdown was recently extended to until May 28, and the projection of a surge in virus cases by the end of May has prompted the authorities to strengthen preventive measures.

While virus cases in Maldives have now risen to 1,078, 49 have recovered and four have died from complications.
