A pregnant individual who tested positive for COVID-19 has given birth.
The country has recorded more than 900 cases of the virus. Out of the confirmed cases, two cases are of pregnant women.
Sun has learned that the woman that gave birth today tested positive for the virus last week at IGMH. The woman gave birth at the Tree Top Hospital today.
Both the mother and her newborn child are doing well, a family member informed Sun. Her family stated that the woman had undergone a Cesarean delivery.
Her family has requested a second test of COVID-19 in order to fully confirm whether she is infected with the virus. She was tested positive on May 5, after being admitted in IGMH on May 2.
Her contacts have all tested negative, including nurses and doctors of IGMH, which has led the family to request a second test of the virus to fully confirm. Authorities are yet to conduct a second test.
When a journalist of Sun questioned about the case during a press conference, NEOC medical officer Dr. Ibrahim Afzal stated that it was highly unlikely that her test results were a false positive.
The Maldives has now confirmed more than 900 cases of the virus.
