HPA confirms 24 more cases of COVID-19

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has just announced that a further 24 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Maldives.

A tweet sent out from the official account of HPA, read that the cases confirmed today include 20 Bangladeshi nationals, three Maldivians and one Indian national.

The agency stated that the samples collected and tested positive include those from vulnerable residences under monitoring status by the authorities.

With the new cases confirmed today, the total figure for the country currently stands at 642. The majority of the cases have been identified in Male' City. The populous capital confirmed a community case of the virus on April 15. Since then, the whole city and the surrounding areas are in full lockdown and curfew. 

The majority of the virus cases confirmed in the Maldives have come from foreign nationals, mostly migrant workers. 

With cases number still increasing, although, at a lower rate than compared to a few days ago, the Maldives has so far recorded two deaths from the virus. The deceased, are an elderly Maldivian woman and a middle-aged Bangladeshi national. 20 individuals have also made recoveries after being infected with the virus.
