COVID-19: Additional 10 cases, total at 491

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced the confirmation of ten additional cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives.

On its official Twitter account, HPA stated that the additional ten cases discovered today included five Maldivians, three Bangladeshi nationals as well as two Indian nationals. The positive cases are aged between 16 and 87.

The 87-year old positive case is a female Maldivian national while the youngest of the positive ten cases is a 16-year old male Maldivian. The clusters to which the positive cases belong to were not specified by the authorities at the time of announcing the news. In total, 23 cases have been confirmed today.

The total number of positive cases in the country now stands at 491 with just one recorded death. Apart from Male' City, cases have been identified in Manadhoo, Thakandhoo, Uligan, Thulusdhoo, Narudhoo, and Mliandhoo.

A total of 267 Bangladeshi nationals have tested positive for the virus along with 157 Maldivians and 51 Indian nationals. 422 males have tested positive for the virus while 69 females have also tested positive. 

There are 1225 people placed in quarantine facilities with a further 418 in isolation facilities across the country. 8073 tests have so far been conducted by the authorities for the virus, with 332 samples currently in pending.
