95 virus cases confirmed today from one location

The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) has confirmed that 95 cases tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives today are from the same location.

The 95 individuals include 61 Bangladeshi nationals as well as 32 Indian and 2 Nepali nationals.

NEOC spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez stated in a news conference tonight that the individuals were residing in the same location.

Several locations where migrant workers are living in congested conditions have been brought monitoring status by the authorities. The locations are being supervised by the Police. 23 locations home to around 1085 people are currently being monitored. The individuals living there are being assisted by the Maldives Red Crescent.

Speaking in a press conference tonight, NEOC medical officer Dr. Ibrahim Afzal stated that the BZM cluster and COV cluster were some of the biggest clusters in the country. The COV cluster is designated for positive cases originating from the COVID village under construction, while the BZM cluster is for the collective cases identified from the Market area of Maldives.
