COVID-19: Hike in cases observed as 95 test positive

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that 95 cases of COVID-19 has been identified in the Maldives.

On its official Twitter account, HPA announced the 95 cases, which would bring the total count of cases in the country to 396 after just two weeks of identifying the first community case in the capital.

The majority number of cases have originated in the capital Male’ City, with cases also identified in the islands of Milandhoo, Narudhoo, and Uligan.

The cases confirmed today include 61 Bangladeshi nationals, 32 Indian nationals, and 2 Nepali nationals.

HPA stated that the samples from the individuals were collected after they were placed in isolation from a vulnerable residence. The residence is currently being monitored by Police.

The country confirmed more than 70 cases on April 26, 2020, which was previously the highest number of cases identified in a single day. However, the 95 cases confirmed today, mean that the disheartening record has been overtaken once again.

The Maldives has now confirmed 396 cases of the virus with 17 recoveries and 1 death confirmed. The number of positive cases is expected to increase today.
