Maldives Police Service, on Tuesday, arrested two people who travelled out of N. Manadhoo and attempted to enter N. Landhoo on a dinghy boat, violating a nationwide travel ban which prohibits travel between islands without a permit
According to the police, the two had travelled out of Manadhoo without the knowledge of the island’s COVID-19 taskforce.
They were intercepted at the lagoon of Landhoo and barred entrance to the island, upon which they travelled back to Manadhoo.
Identified as a 40-year-old Maldivian male and a 39-year-old Maldivian male – the two were arrested under court order at approximately 9:25 pm for travelling without the permission of the taskforce and putting the safety of the island at risk.
Both remain under the custody of the Manadhoo police.
Manadhoo is also one of the 14 islands quarantined by Health Protection Agency (HPA), in connection to the virus case on board the boat Amaazu, which had carried passengers from Male’ to several islands in northern Maldives.
