Movement to and from Manadhoo to be monitored over suspicions surrounding woman’s death

Maldives Police Service has begun monitoring people traveling to and from N. Manadhoo after declaring suspicions surrounding the death of an elderly woman whose body was discovered on Friday evening.

Naeema Mossa, 62, Annaarumaage, N. Manadhoo was discovered dead late Friday evening. Her body was discovered inside her room after officers forced down the door.

Citing the Police, Manadhoo Council President Sabeeh Abdul Rahman said there were many red flags surrounding the death of the Naeema. However, he did not provide any specific details.

He said Police have instructed those traveling to and from the island to report to them.

Naeema lives alone in a home in Manadhoo. Police attended to her home after her family filed a report with the authority at approximately 6:13pm on Friday evening prompted by a period of no contact.

Sabeeh detailed that Naeema was a sweeper employed by Manadhoo Council to clean the island. He added it has been two days since she has not reported to work or gotten in contact with anyone.

“She did not report to work yesterday. Colleagues who work alongside her went her home and knocked on the door. But there was no response.  It was discovered she had not gotten in contact with her family when they were contacted after she failed to report to work today as well. Then the family reported to the police,” he said.

Sabeeh said the council has made a public announcement instructing people against leaving or entering the island without informing relevant authorities at the request of the police as they investigate Naeema’s death further.

While there are suspicions surrounding Naeema’s death – Sun has learned the case is under investigation by Police’s Serious and Organized Crime Department.
