Five test positive for COVID-19, cases spiral to 250

The government of Maldives has announced that five more individuals had tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives, bringing the total figure fpr the country to 250 cases.

Speaking in a press conference tonight, NEOC spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez said that the authorities have collected samples from 7,723 individuals, out of which 250 people have tested positive for the virus.

The number of negative cases in the country stands at 6,286. The number of pending samples are 1,888.

“Out of the samples, many are from our surveillance taken from random sampling. From the cases, we identified, those with symptoms of the virus identified through contact tracing of positive cases.” Said Mabrouq.

Within the last 24 hours, the authorities have confirmed 21 cases of the virus. This includes eight people from Sh. Narudhoo and one from Sh. Milandhoo.

Out of the current confirmed cases, 99 are Maldivians while 151 foreigners have also tested positive for the virus. The number of patients that recovered from the virus still stands at 17. Currently, the Maldives has 231 active cases of the virus.
