President Solih discusses virus situation with UK

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has informed the government of the United Kingdom regarding the situation with COVID-19 in the Maldives during a phone call with UK’s Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.

The two held discussions regarding the ongoing situation with the pandemic virus and how collaborative efforts can be made to mitigate the situation. The President noted that the Maldives had held on from community spread of the virus for more than a month since the first case of the virus was identified in the country.

The President then briefed on the safety measures being taken in the Maldives such as the public health emergency declared in the country and social distancing measures.

He assured that the virus would be controlled in the country with constructive and thoughtful measures of the government despite the identification of more than 200 cases since the community spread began.

The President also stated that he was well aware of the impact of the virus on the United Kingdom as well.
