An individual that traveled to the island of Sh. Milandhoo from the Amaazu passenger boat has tested positive for COVID-19.

The individual was in home isolation before testing positive for the virus.

The authorities announced last night that 101 contacts had been identified from the positive case connected with Amaazu boat.

The boat's captain, a 49-year old local male had tested positive for the virus last Saturday after traveling with 91 passengers to several islands in the north of Maldives, prompting the authorities to issue a request for anyone that traveled on the boat to report.

Six people in the island of Narudhoo have also tested positive for the virus after contact with the positive case from the boat.

Speaking in a press conference last night, National Emergency Operations Center, medical officer Dr. Ibrahim Afzal had stated that out of the 101 contacts identified from the Amaazu boat cluster (AMZ cluster), six were exhibiting symptoms of the virus.

14 northern islands in total have been placed under monitoring mechanisms due to the cluster.
