4 more test positive, increasing virus cases to 141

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Saturday, announced four more had tested positive for COVID-19, increasing virus cases in Maldives to 141.

According to HPA, the four new cases are; two Indians, one Sri Lankan, and one Maldivian.

It follows confirmation of eight new cases earlier this Saturday; all Maldivians.

One of the Maldivians who tested positive on Saturday is the captain of passenger boat Amaazu which had carried passengers from Male’ to several islands in northern Maldives. It marks the second residential island outside of the capital to confirm a virus case, following H. A. Uligan.

Male’ identified its first virus case on April 15, prompting lockdown on the Greater Male’ Region, and a nationwide ban on all non-essential travel. People who travelled to outer lying islands from the capital have been instructed to practice 14 days of self-isolation at home.

Virus cases in Maldives, fueled by the community outbreak in the capital, have now risen to 141.
