Islamic Ministry has advised against the closure of mosques in the country without the approval of the authorities.

In a statement, the Ministry confirmed that reports were being received of mosques being closed without permission across the country.

Such closures of mosques for reasons such as renovation or construction purposes have to be approved by the Ministry. The Ministry also advised that the sound systems in place at mosques were only to be used for prayer calls and announcements by the Ministry. Any other use of such sound systems can only be made upon the approval of the Ministry. Written documents to be publicized in mosques also have to be approved by the Ministry which will do so after reviewing the documents.

Collective prayers in Male’ city areas have been temporarily halted by the government as a preventive measure against the spread of the virus.
