It has been revealed that an individual who tested positive for the Covid-19 virus after departing from the Maldives was an employee of the Bodufushi Resort which is under development by Joali Maldives.
The Maldivian government announced last night that the foreign individual had tested positive for the virus upon returning back home. The individual was an employee of the Bodufushi resort in R. Atoll, which was placed under monitoring mechanisms along with Joali Maldives resort.
Authorities are now conducting contact tracing on both resorts. The person had arrived in the Maldives on October 13, 2019, and had departed from the Maldives on March 31, 2020.
An official from the Joali Maldives resort spoke to “Sun” regarding the virus case and confirmed that the person was an employee of the Bodufushi resort. The official said that no suspected symptoms of the virus were visible from the individual when the person departed from the Maldives.
The official also said that the person had tested positive after returning back to the home country on March 31, where the person was placed in quarantine and tested for the virus.
The individual has been identified as a Turkish national who was quarantined in Turkey.
The official from Joali Maldives also stated that employees of Joali Maldives had recently visited the Bodufushi resort which is still under development. The resort has not yet been opened, however, most of the work on the development of the resort was now completed.
The official added that the person tested positive had not traveled to another country during the six months since arriving and had not communicated with any guests as well.
