Former Elections Commission president and current member of the commission Fuad Thowfeeq has criticized the government for appointing “puppets” to independent institutions.

Commenting on some tweets on social media Fuad said that the leaders wished to appoint puppets to Elections Commission. It is not certain who the target of Fuad’s tweets are.

He also responded to a tweet by a member of the public who complained that a response was not received to a nine-month-old issue lodged with the President’s Office and Anti-Corruption Commission. Fuad commented that this was not what he hoped from the Commission.

“Citizens voted for MDP with the hope of justice. With the hope of honesty, sincerity and a zero-tolerance for corruption. However, 16 months have passed without achieving any of this.” The former EC president had said previously.

Fuad had also not taken part in the vote to re-elect the EC vice president Ahmed Akram after these comments. Fuad was reappointed to the Commission by the current administration.
