Education Ministry, on Thursday, said it had yet to make a decision regarding a potential postponement of the A’ Level and AS exams scheduled for May/June.

Students in Maldives sit for the Edexcel A’ Level exams – a UK-based program.

Due to the spiraling COVID-19 cases in Europe, the UK has now closed its schools and has cancelled the exams scheduled for May/June.

“However, since the exam centers in UK have yet to make a decision regarding the international examinations it offers in countries outside of UK, we inform you that a decision regarding a postponement of the May/June exams students in Maldives are scheduled to sit in has yet to be made, as of now,” announced Education Ministry in a statement this morning.

13 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Maldives, all of whom are foreign nationals who were either working or vacationing in resorts or safaris. Of the 13 people, five were from Kuredu Island Resort, two from Sandies Bathala, two from Kuramathi Island Resort, two from Anantara Dhigu, and two from Island Safari-1.

Maldives, on March 12, announced a 30-day state of public health emergency over the COVID-19 pandemic, and has since taken multiple measures aimed at containing and preventing a potential outbreak.

As one such measure, schools in Maldives have been temporarily closed.

However, Educational Ministry has introduced alternative teaching methods such as Google classrooms to ensure the education of A’ Level and AS students go uninterrupted.
