Maldivian Red Crescent has stated that it is providing psychosocial support for those in quarantine and isolation after being infected or suspected with the Covid-19 disease in the Maldives.
Maldives Red Crescent Secretary General Fathimath Himya stated that psychological and social services would be provided to the people in quarantine or isolation at a news conference today.
President of the organization, Ali Nashid said that the organization will be conducting three activities.
“Firstly, we are taking part in assisting and working with the government and the taskforce assembled, as an independent organization. The Red Crescent is assisting in the technical aspects of this work,” said Nashid.
Work to create awareness about hygiene and the spread of the disease is also being conducted by the organization. Psychological and social support was being offered to those who need it via phone, according to Nashid.
Speaking about the different branches of the organization in islands, program officer Maeedh Mohamed Zahir said that door to door activities were conducted in islands and Male’ city. The activities were halted after the level was increased to two, according to Maeedh.
Work aimed to create awareness at the expatriate population in the Maldives was also underway. Face to face sessions with around 6000 migrants in the country had been conducted by the organization so far, according to Maeedh.
