Maldives Civil Aviation Authority has announced that travel restrictions will be imposed on arrivals from Bangladesh and those who had visited the country in a 14-day period as a precaution against the spread of the Covid-19 disease in the Maldives.

The restrictions will be in place from tomorrow and will expire on March 24. Maldivians arriving from Bangladesh and spouses of Maldivians from the country will be exempted from these restrictions.

Bangladesh confirmed a case of the Covid-19 disease yesterday.

Four cases of the virus have been spotted in the Maldives so far. The cases were identified from the resorts of Kuredu Island and Sandies Bathala in the Maldives. The islands have been placed in lockdown while the infected have been moved to quarantine facilities.

The Maldives has imposed restrictions on five of the countries hit hardest with the disease. They are China, Italy, Iran, two areas of South Korea and now Bangladesh.
