PG: Council will investigate dishonesty regarding investigations

The Prosecutor General Hussain Shameeem (R) is pictured with Bar Council member Ahmed Muizzu (C) and former PG Muhuthaaz Muhusin (L).

The Bar Council will investigate if an attorney is dishonest about a police investigation, Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has said.

The Prosecutor General said so after tweeting a picture of his meeting with Bar Council member Ahmed Muizzu and former PG Muhuthaaz Muhsin.

PG Shameem said that the job of an attorney was to ensure that trials are conducted fairly and not to mislead.

“If attorneys are dishonest about a police investigation, the Bar Council will review the case,” said PG Shameem who noted the importance of the council to increase public faith in the sector.

Under the laws related to the Bar Council, the council has the authority to investigate matters related to attorneys working under the Prosecutor General’s office and the Attorney General’s Office.

PG Shameem’s statement comes after police accused the former vice president who now represents former president Abdulla Yameen, of publicizing untrue information regarding an investigation.
