Divorce rates of 2019 see alarming rise with 14 per day

The Department of Judicial Administration has revealed that the number of divorce rates in the country has spiraled by 60 percent in 2019.

The number of divorces recorded in the country increased to 5117. Last year, an average of 14 divorces were recorded per day.

This is a huge increase from the 3166 divorces recorded in 2018. A total of 61.6 percent increase.

The number of marriages in 2019 numbered at 6509 which is an average of 17 per day. It is also an increase of 23 percent compared to 2018 where there were 5290 marriages.

The Maldives has the highest number of divorce rates per population at a ratio of 10.97 in the world.
