Education Ministry has announced the decision to add fish buns, chicken buns and pizza to the menu of the school breakfast program.
An Education Ministry spokesperson told Sun the changes will take effect with the beginning of the academic year 2020.
The spokesperson said the changes were being made based on feedback from school students.
The fish and chicken buns will include lettuce, tomato and cucumber, only a little salt and oil, and no mayonnaise.
Education Ministry launched the pilot version of the school breakfast program in January this year. The program, which began with only 25 schools, now feeds breakfast to approximately 55,000 students in 122 schools.
Education Ministry spent MVR 134.5 million on the program this year.
