At least two former officials at the Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia have been discovered continuing to use diplomatic license plates on their cars long after they left their posts.
Pictures of the ex-embassy officials posing with the diplomatic license plated cars recently went viral over social media platforms.
Diplomatic passports and license are reserved solely for diplomats for as long as they continue to be in service. Embassy officials are not allowed continued use of the privileges after they leave the service.
Communications Director at Foreign Ministry, Mohamed Miuwan told Sun this Thursday that diplomatic license plates are allowed only on embassy vehicles and the vehicles of embassy officials.
He said that the continued use of diplomatic license plates on the vehicles of the former embassy staff in Malaysia is therefore against regulations.
Sun has been informed that several former embassy officials have been warned over their use of diplomatic license plates by the Foreign Ministry.
